Christmas Crafts: Felt Christmas Tree...Friday, December 23, 2016
It might be a little late in December to be sharing Christmas Crafts, but as I only finished work this week for Christmas and maternity leave I haven't had a lot of time on my hands for festive fun but now Im making the most of it!
These felted Christmas trees were made, by first hand making the felt.
You will need:
Wool fibres / a plant pot for the base / cinnnamon sticks for the trunk / glue gun / scissors / bubble wrap / towel/ warm water / soap / plastic for the template / white felt / floristry oasis block and oasis cone.
Cut the block of oasis to fit into the plant pot base, tie the cinnamon sticks together and using the glue gun to glue into the oasis base.
Next you will need to cut your triangle shape out of the plastic, this will create a resist so you can make a cone of felt and shape it to the triangle.
Lay layers of wool fibres - one layer vertically then one layer horizontally. Apply warm water and soap, then layer over your bubble wrap and rub. This friction causes the wool fibres to bond together to create the felt. You will want to layer the wool fibres on both sides of your triangle and fold over along the edges to create your triangle shape.
With your felt triangle now made you can add the pre-made white felt for decoration. I chose to cut out stars but you could do spots or hearts or snowflakes, whatever you like.
Add more warm water and soap and layer bubble wrap over the top and rub in circular motions to felt the stars to the green felt.
Glue oasis cone to the top of your cinnamon sticks and wrap paper around the cone to create your tree shape. Once your felt triangle is dry you can place on the cone and shape to fit. If its too big it needs further rubbing to felt it smaller.
Voila! Felt Christmas Tree that you can bring out year after year. :) Hope everyone has a fantastic Christmas!
