Trip to the Countryside...Sunday, August 21, 2016
Dave & I love traveling around the countryside exploring new forest walks and country lanes and generally acting like old age pensioners way before our time. So when TravelSupermarket asked us if we would like to take off for a weekend of adventures on the open road we couldnt say yes quick enough!
First thing we did was to pick up a suave courtesy car from TravelSupermarket's comparison site to make our drive a little bit more luxurious. Then we headed off to our chosen destination, we chose to spend our weekend at the most amazing guest house known as Blackwell House. We chose Blackwell House after looking through their rooms and recommendations of things to see and do nearby, I wanted something a little bit different and fell in the love with the boutique style house which felt secluded and special. We chose to book the Blue Room, as soon as I saw the claw foot bath in front of the big window I knew I wanted to try it out! Its my dream to have my own claw bath some day!
We checked in at 3pm and were greeted by the owners, given a little tour and then escorted to the garden room for homemade cream tea - hot scones and homemade jams with cream, what a great way to start the weekend! After giving our room the once over we left our bags and headed out to explore the surrounding countryside.
We headed straight to the canal which we had heard was a great spot for walks and bike rides. Heading along the towpath over tiny stone bridges, passing collapsing old walls, the odd grazing bull & plenty of idyllic countryside. After this we ventured round a little village before heading back and getting ready for dinner out. Thanks to Blackwell House's great website and recommendations we booked a table in The Pot Belly and enjoyed a generous two course meal with drinks and coffees.
With full bellies we headed back to our sumptuous room, slipped in our robes and slippers had a relaxing hot bath then curled up on the kingsize bed and watched Wolverine and drank peppermint tea before drifting off to sleep for a solid 10 hours.. Bliss!
The next morning we headed down for THE best breakfast I think Ive ever had, Dave & I are big breakfast people we love it all irish frys to continental and Blackwell House had it all. We started with logan berry, strawberry smoothies blended with yoghurt, honey and fresh mint and a bowl of cereal and selection of fresh fruit. With that quickly devoured I chose to have a full Ulster fry with homemade potato bread & soda bread and Dave chose toasted soda bread with avocado pesto, spinach, mozzarella & a poached egg.
Energised for the day we set off to explore a nearby wood known as Clare Glen, which was the perfect end to a very relaxing trip..
I would highly recommend all the places we visited, stayed and ate in if anyone is thinking of exploring this part of Northern Ireland! Be sure to send me a tweet if you decide to stay in Blackwell House yourself!
Also a special mention and thank you to TravelSupermarket for making this trip possible!
