My Kitchen Makeover...Monday, April 04, 2016
Ive been wanting to share with you guys my kitchen make over for ages! It was one of the first rooms we tackled when we moved in back in August. The original kitchen was totally fine but just not our cup of tea. It had dark wooden units and cream tiles with a blue stripped wallpaper and the cooker was situated in the corner of the kitchen with a large imposing traditional cooker hood which I didnt like. The overall feel left the kitchen feeling quite dark and Dave & I really wanted to create a light and bright modern shaker style kitchen.
The first thing we did was decide on a new layout for the kitchen, moving the hob around and out of the corner and placing the oven at the other end of the kitchen and also at eye level instead of down low. We decided on a built in fridge freezer and dishwasher and large deep drawers for saucepans and woks. Then we had the whole kitchen ripped out, new spotlights fitted in the ceiling and the walls were re-plastered. We picked mint green subway tiles by Laura Ashley and chose a wood grain affect doors in the colour mussel which is a shade between white and cream with a grey tint to it. For the hardware we chose a brushed chunky handle in a dark metal and then chose granite grey large floor tiles. Lastly we decided to paint the walls a blue grey shade in Dulux Steel Parade.
So thats our kitchen make over! We are sooo pleased with the result! We still need to replace the skirting boards, fit a blind over the window and maybe a shelf to display pretty pieces on the wall above the kitchen table which is currently looking a little bare. The results have made such a transformation on how we use the kitchen and made this room the heart of our home.
