hair care

For those of you who have read my blog for years, you will know that Im actually a natural blonde. I chose to colour my hair red 9 years ago and since then Ive never looked back. Ive changed the cut and shade more times than I can remember but being a redhead feels like my natural colour. Red hair fits my personality. That being said continuously colouring your hair can be incredibly damaging for your hair & its really important for me to keep my hair healthy and looking natural.

So I thought id share my tips on keeping coloured hair healthy...

Im not incredibly fussy with the shampoo and conditioner I use, at the minute I prefer Tresemme moisture rich shampoo and Loreal Elvive colour protect conditioner. Ive heard alot of people saying dont wash your hair too often to keep the colour vibrant, but with a heavy block fringe washing my hair every other day works best for me. I wrap my hair in a towel for about 15 minutes before drying with a hair dryer to try and absorb as much water out of it before using any heat.

Before drying I apply Oil Wonders Strengthening Oil to the bottom 4 inches of my hair, this nourishes any dry or fragile hair and also works well in helping my detangle any knots. Then I work through with my hair brush and apply a mist of ghd Heat Protect Spray.

Then I dry using a large barrel round ceramic hairbrush and my trusty ghd hairdryer.

Once my hair is dry I dont tend to use many products or further heat sources to try and protect my hair as much as I can. I dont even own straighteners which surprises a lot of people. I like my hair with a slight natural wave so I twist up into a bun while still warm (from the hairdryer) and leave in place for an hour or so. I occasionally use a spritz of hair spray and maybe a curling wand but I try and style my hair as much as possible when drying it so that no further effort is required & also no further damage is done to my hair and voila! Thats how I look after my thick lions mane of hair. Im thinking of doing a post on picking the right red hair colour for you, so if you liked this post and would like to hear more on red hair, please let me know in the comments or on twitter! :)
