Antique & second hand furniture shopping...Sunday, February 08, 2015
Well hello little blog! Im sorry for being MIA this week, I never schedule blog posts even though I must be the only blogger in the world not to do this. i like to write in that exact moment depending on my mood and writing before hand doesnt feel natural & also involves a lot of forward planning not something Im big on either! :) It means when life gets crazy my blog is the one left to gather dust. Opps!
Last week Dave & I went exploring a few antique second hand shops for some unique pieces for our new home. We have decided every weekened that we can to hit a different place and then review them here on the blog. These two were On the square auctions & Refound.
Refound had a more polished boutique look, taking pieces in good condition and modernising them and giving them a new lease life. On the square I found to be a more traditional antiques place, you need to poke about and find hidden gems. Some pieces here have been loving restored, others are slightly battered but you could always see potential in what could be done with them.
We spotted an awesome teak sideboard that was in amazing condition and some retro 70's dining chairs that wouldve been great for us had they just had a few more! Also this china set featured above was a set Dave's nanny had when he was little. He still has one cup and saucer for sentimental reasons so we had to photograph the whole set! We are still quite new to the whole thrift/antique shopping but we are learning as we go and know that we want to mix retro, old and new pieces together in our home to (hopefully) create an eclectic but cohesive home. I would thoroughly recommend both these shops if you are in the Belfast area or even just visiting for a day. Both have very different tastes but are full of treasures and antique gems to suit any style, you just need a bit of imagination!
