Fur coats and red hair...

Wednesday, November 03, 2010

These photos where taken before I got struck down will my nasty illness and the day after my friend Jo dyed my hair for me.. I usually get my hair coloured in a salon Ive gone to since I was 15. But sadly funds where short this month and the red tones fade so quickly that getting it re-coloured every 5/6 weeks at £60 a pop just isnt do-able. So I decided to try a do it yourself dye, I used Nice & Easy Light Auburn. It came out alot darker than I thought and more rusty red but I really like it, alas even though it was a permenant colour it has faded dramatically over the past 2 weeks..but at £11 (takes 2 bottles to dye my lions mane of hair) I have no problem re dying it every few weeks. What do you guys think? Like the colour? Could you recommend another brand or colour?

Faux Fur: Vintage, Dress: Asos sale, Cardy: Topshop, Tights & Ankle Boots: M&S,
Bag: Primark, Swallow necklace: c/o ilovecutiepie.
I got this dress in the asos sale a month or so ago and thought although its a summer sundress it would be great for autumn.. I love the print and the rich brown colour trim around the bottom, and with thick tights, fur coat and ankle boots I think works well..

  3. Your hair is such a lovely colour. I dye mine red, but its a lot darker than yours, I would love to have a similar colour to this! My friend has dyed her hair before this kind of colour and she used the XXL Live colour (the new improved ones apparently!). They are on offer for £3.50 at the mo at Tescos, I have just used a dark red and so far so good, no fade and it’s very shiny!
Sorry for the bombardment of info! I am also debating a fringe like yours, so lovely and wintery :)

  7. Looks great, that's the only trouble with Red. Stick to the same one though otherwise you tend to get colour build up and you'll end up with glowing roots (same one meaning same shade, other brands might be better)
Live XXL is great at giving shine, used to use that on mine.

p.s hope you are feeling better.

  9. I think your hair looks lovely. I always dyed my hair at home, its way much cheaper than going to the salon, and I can buy the dye bottle that they use in the Hairdressers salon, and still it's cheaper for me.

  13. I'm getting sooo tempted to dye mine a coppery red, and you might have just tipped me over the edge - yours looks lovely! My only worry is that some of my clothes might clash (what a fickle life I lead!). I always home dye, so easy and so much cheaper. I don't feel like I can justify spending that money when I'm only going up or down a few shades!

  14. Your hair is absolutely amazing - that shade is perfect for this time of year. I use LiveXXL in whatever red I fancy at the time, but tomorrow will be taking the leap and going brunette! (I've been dying my hair red since I was about 15)

You're gorgeous love, and the dress is beautiful. I think it'd work much better now than it would in summer to be honest.

You could try to color it with henna? I did that when I was yunger. My hair is normally, light brown, and henne makes it light red.

  29. my fellow red-haired friend, i'm SO glad you posted about this. i've been getting my hair done at a salon for a while now but it's just too expensive! i've been thinking about doing it myself, but i have no idea what brands are good ones, although i've heard many times that nice 'n easy is great. i'm going to keep up with comments to see what people suggest! also, i have a question: will my (natural) roots come out a different colour than the rest of my (coloured) hair when i put a box dye on it? does that make sense? maybe that's a silly question... i'm such a newbie at this. ;) thanks, dear!

Couldn't really recommend a dye, as I'm quite the amateur at dying, I've only ever used home semi-perms!
